Construction timeline for $2.3M washroom project at Markham’s Wismer Park

The City of Markham has revealed the timeline for the development of washroom facilities and a pavilion spanning over a decade at Wismer Park.

According to Richard Fournier, Senior Manager of Parks and Open Space Development, a capital budget of $2,460,600 was approved for the project in 2013.

This budget covered various enhancements in the existing Wismer Park, including the construction of new parking lots, servicing and landscaping works adjacent to Castlemore Drive and maintenance building with washroom.

In 2013, a consulting contract was awarded for $53,924 for the design and contract administration of the parking lots, servicing, lighting and associated landscape works along Castlemore. However, the maintenance and washroom building were not part of this contract.

In 2014, a construction contract was awarded for $1,219,709 for the aforementioned parking lots, servicing, lighting, and associated landscape works along Castlemore. Again, the maintenance and washroom building were not included in this contract.

Four years later, in 2018, a capital budget of $1,139,600 was approved for the design and construction of a park shade pavilion and washroom. This funding was intended to be combined with the remaining funds from the 2013 project allocated for the park maintenance building. Consequently, the total budget was revised to $2,326,567.

Another five years passed and in 2023, a construction contract was awarded for $2,302,587 for the servicing and construction of the park maintenance building facility, along with the park washroom and shade pavilion.

Construction is currently underway and is expected to be completed in Q4 2024.
