Coronation Street killer Stephen Reid rushed into surgery after being caught out

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Stephen Reid has been rushed to hospital in Coronation Street after his lies were exposed.

Wednesday night's (July 19) episode saw the murderer facing comeuppance for lying to fiancée Elaine, though he still hasn't been caught over the three people he's killed yet.

The episode opened with Elaine making an alarming discovery while going through old family photos with Sarah and Gail, as she noticed Stephen with the woman from his recent Zoom call.

Although Elaine pieced together that this mystery woman, Gabrielle, must be Stephen's ex-wife, she kept cool until she could confide in her son Tim about her discovery.

As the two started to piece together Stephen's recent suspicious activity, Elaine showed Tim a box where Stephen kept private files, opening it to find the forged life insurance documents.

Tim sent his mum away so he could confront Stephen at his flat. When Stephen finally did show up, Tim warned him that they'd report him to the police.

During a scuffle, Stephen was pushed and whacked his head — giving Tim a means to escape. A dazed and bloody Stephen stumbled into the street, where David Platt spotted him and called for help.

At the same time, Tim was assuring his mum that Stephen wouldn't bother her anymore when they all found out that he'd been hospitalised with a head injury.

Gail Platt informed Elaine that Stephen had suffered a serious injury and would now be rushed into emergency surgery. Tim maintained that he'd only shoved Stephen, yet he was soon arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH).

"It was an accident," Tim insisted.

While Stephen's fate may look grim following his lies being exposed, this isn't the end of him in Weatherfield. Producers have already confirmed his next storyline: Stephen will be making a play for Jenny Connor!

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
