Coroner releases names of victims in Lacey double homicide as well as causes of death

The names of the two victims of a double homicide in Lacey last week have been released by the Thurston County Coroner, as well as their official causes of death.

Julia Maupin, 24, was John Robert Maupin’s pregnant wife. She died of a gunshot wound to her head. The fetus died of maternal death due to a gunshot wound.

Brandon Rudlaff, 26, was an active-duty soldier at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and one of the Maupins’ roommates. He died of multiple gunshot wounds.

All three deaths are being considered homicides, Coroner Gary Warnock said.

John Robert Maupin, an active-duty Army member, was booked into Thurston County Jail on June 21 on suspicion of two counts of second-degree murder; domestic violence while armed with a firearm; second-degree assault while armed with a firearm; and attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle.

At John Robert Maupin’s preliminary appearance in Thurston County Superior Court on June 21, Judge Christopher Lanese found probable cause for his alleged crimes and ordered he be held without bail until further order.
