Councillors, mayor remuneration report released
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent released its annual remuneration and expenses report paid to each Councillor and appointee for 2023 at the March 25 meeting.
Sixteen of the 17 Councillors received a $36,900 salary, including a 7.4% pooled benefit charge ($2,707) covering the cost of Canada Pension and Employer Health Tax.
Ward 4 North Kent Councillor Rhonda Jubenville’s salary was adjusted to $27,675, and her benefit package to $2,018 due to a three-month penalty imposed by an Integrity Commissioner decision, which is under appeal.
Mayor Darrin Canniff earned a salary of $116,747, which included a 25.4% pooled benefit charge ($19,481).
Councillors and the mayor are reimbursed for office equipment, including cell phones, fax machines, and other telecommunication expenses, as well as travel, training, and a car allowance.
The total Council remuneration and expenses were $868,843, below the budgeted $931,050.
