Craving for pizza and tacos leads to man’s big Powerball win. ‘Been waiting for this’
A construction worker’s craving for pizza and tacos led him to a convenience store in Maryland where he bought a winning Powerball ticket.
The 66-year-old man stopped by a 7-Eleven with his family Sept. 2 in Prince George’s County, the Maryland Lottery said in a Sept. 7 news release. Lottery officials didn’t identify him in the release.
He bought a Powerball ticket like he normally does and went home with his food.
A few days later, he went to a 7-Eleven in Hyattsville and bought another Powerball ticket.
He scanned the first ticket and realized he won the game’s third-tier prize of $50,000.
“I have been waiting for this and planning for this for years,” he told lottery officials.
He plans to use his prize money on a new work truck so he can start a company, according to the release.
Hyattsville is about 30 mile southwest of Baltimore.
What to know about Powerball
To score a jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.
Tickets cost $2 and can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times vary by state.
Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
