Crystal Springs driver left keys in truck to enter Lacey Walmart. Here’s what happened next

A man who apparently tried to steal a Crystal Springs water delivery truck last week did not get very far, according to Lacey police.

About 8:40 a.m. Aug. 14, police were dispatched to the Walmart on Galaxy Drive.

Once there, they learned the truck driver had left his keys in the vehicle to enter the store, but while he was gone, a 33-year-old man got into the truck and drove off with it, Lacey Sgt. Jeremy Knight said Tuesday.

The man was detained minutes later at Martin Way East and College Street Southeast.

Police then determined he had two outstanding warrants: one for felony theft of a motor vehicle, the other a misdemeanor for driving with a suspended license, Knight said.

It was not clear why he tried to take the truck, and Knight questioned how far he thought he would get driving a “neon green, billboard of a truck.”
