The A24-produced Showtime series marks Safdie’s first scripted TV foray. Per the official synopsis, Asher (Fielder) and Whitney (Stone) Siegel are married entrepreneurs whose latest plan is to flip houses and convert them into eco-friendly homes for the struggling residents of Española, New Mexico — all for an HGTV-style reality show being overseen by an ingratiating producer (Safdie) with demons of his own. From this premise, which nimbly touches upon inescapable American issues of race, class, and capital, Fielder and Safdie branch out into an increasingly tangled network of ethical and moral gray zones, expertly balancing the tender and the merciless.

Barkhad Abdi, Corbin Bernsen, and Constance Shulman guest star.

The 10-episode series is co-produced by Showtime and A24, with Fielder and Safdie, along with brother Josh Safdie, executive producing with the Safdie’s Elara Pictures banner. Stone also executive produces alongside Dave McCary and Ali Herting through their Fruit Tree banner.

Fielder and Safdie co-created and wrote the series, with Fielder directing along with David and Nathan Zellner. The show will debut its first three episodes at the 2023 New York Film Festival as part of the Spotlight programming. Episodes 4 through 10 will be screened at Film at Lincoln Center during the show’s run, starting November 12. Oscar-nominated actress Stone additionally appears in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Golden Lion winner “Poor Things” at NYFF. The actress teams up once again with “The Favourite” auteur for upcoming “AND,” as well as short film “Bleat,” which premiered in 2022 and has a special screening at NYFF as well.

“The Curse” premieres on streaming and on-demand for all Showtime and Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers November 10 before making its on-air debut on Showtime November 12. Check out the teaser below.
