Curse-worthy cold bites into Manitoba

Sunny but cold in Winnipeg on Sunday

Unless there's an expletive attached, it's not easy to describe the cold that's coming in southern Manitoba.

That said, a step outside will immediately give you a taste of it.

Winnipeggers were greeted with a temperature of –24 C on Thursday morning, while the wind chill made it feel more like –34 on exposed skin.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are a daytime high of –8 C and overnight low of –19 C.

CBC meteorologist John Sauder is calling for a high of Thursday of –17 C in Winnipeg followed by a high on Friday of –16.

The wind on both days will pick up in the afternoon and push the wind chill factor into the –36 range on Thursday and about –32 on Friday.

Then it gets really cold.

Sauder is calling for a daytime high on Saturday of –25 C, without any wind chill factored into that yet.
