Memorial University says the start of in-person classes for the winter semester at its Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook has been delayed due to an ongoing cybersecurity incident.

Classes were set to begin on Thursday, but have now been rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 8. This includes classes at Western Regional School of Nursing, with the exception of fourth year students in course 4516, which will begin as scheduled.

Online courses are also continuing as normal.

The university says IT services at the Marine Institute have also been temporarily shut down, as a precaution.

In a statement released on Sunday, the university said security protocols were put in place to isolate the affected systems, but gave few other details on the nature of the incident. The university said there is no indication at this stage that IT services or data on other campuses are affected.

MUN said an investigation was launched and law enforcement has been notified. The university said it will directly notify any individuals whose information may have been affected by this incident.
