Cyclist dead after being hit by garbage truck in west Ottawa

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the intersection of Clyde and Lotta avenues in the west end just after 8 a.m., where a man in his 40s was without vital signs after being struck while riding his mountain bike.

An off-duty paramedic was the first to arrive and attempted to revive the man, but the cyclist was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The man is not being identified until next of kin are notified, police said.

He is the fourth cyclist to be killed by a large truck in Ottawa since the summer of 2013.
