Dakota Johnson Really, Really (Really!) Hated Working on 'The Office'
If you could guest-star on any '00s sitcom, what would it be? Big Bang Theory? Hell no. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia? Too chaotic. How about The Office? I bet it’s most TV fans' top choice. Who wouldn’t want to have a beer with Creed Bratton? Well, according to Dakota Johnson, it’s less exciting than you’d think.
“That was honestly the worst time of my life," Johnson told Seth Meyers. In 2013, Johnson appeared in The Office's series finale. She played Dakota, a young accountant who is hired by Dwight Schrute (Rain Wilson) after Kevin Malone (Brian Baumgartner) was fired. Initially, the plan was for Johnson’s character to lead a spinoff series, but that idea was canned. “I loved that show [The Office] so much,” Johnson said. “And they were like, ‘Do you want to be in the series finale?’ I was like, ‘Of course,’ thinking that I’d show up for like half a day. I was there for two weeks, and I’m barely in the f***ing show.”
By the time Johnson appeared on set, the cast had already been working together for a decade, which made it difficult to acclimate. “There were weird dynamics that had been going on for the last 10 years,” Johnson continued. “Some people didn’t speak to each other, and I’m coming in like, ‘So excited to be here!’ and no one wanted to talk to me. Nobody gave a f**k.” In an interview with Vanity Fair, Johnson likened the experience to “crashing someone’s birthday party when they actually really didn’t mean to invite me.” Yikes.
Well, the great thing about awkward experiences is that they (almost) always come to an end. Since appearing in The Office, Johnson has starred in numerous projects, such as Fifty Shades, Persuasion, The Lost Daughter, and Suspiria. In her newest venture, Madame Web, Johnson plays Cassandra Web, a paramedic who becomes clairvoyant. If you want to see how Johnson's grown since playing a lowly accountant—aside from, you know, being a harbinger of chaos in interviews—check out Madame Web on February 14.
