Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Amy Reimann met through work
Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Amy Reimann’s relationship started off as a job and turned into a marriage.
The NASCAR alum met his wife after he hired her interior design firm to renovate his North Carolina home. After keeping their relationship private for more than two years, they made their public debut before he popped the question six years after they began dating. The happy couple have since welcomed two daughters together.
"Now that me and Amy are growing our family, you certainly are thinking about your kids and that generation and beyond, and what you can pass on to them," Dale Jr. told PEOPLE of his family’s legacy. "So I've been looking at opportunities to become owners of the brands we work with and the companies we work with, take ownership in some of the projects."
Here's everything to know about Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s wife, Amy Reimann.
She is an interior designer
Amy studied at the University of Kentucky, where she was a cheerleader and on the Wildcat Danzers team. She graduated in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in interior design. After college, she worked at Wakefield Beasley & Associates as a project coordinator. She later became the director of Micamy Design Studio’s Charlotte location.
Amy specializes in a variety of designs, including corporate offices, hospitality, club houses, residential, medical offices, high-end residential, retail, showrooms and mixed-use condominiums. She has been in her current role since 2010.
They met through work
Amy met Dale Jr. in 2009 when he hired her and her firm to design the interior of his home in Kannapolis, just outside of Charlotte. While she helped design his home, they began a romantic relationship sometime after its completion. At first, they kept their romance private and out of the public eye for more than two years.
The couple went public in December 2011 when they attended the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champions Week Awards Ceremony in December 2011. Fans quickly began to question how serious their relationship was and if or when he would pop the question.
"The people we interact with on Twitter are, 'When are you going to do it? Pop the question already,' " Dale Jr. said of his fans’ comments. "She gets it more than I do: People telling her all the time I need to put a ring on it. When I turned 40, it really ramped up. People are like, 'Man, your time is running out. Amy is a good girl, what are you waiting for?' "
Dale Jr. proposed in a sentimental way
On June 17, 2015, Dale Jr. proposed to Amy while on vacation in Germany. Dale Jr.’s ancestors attended seven generations ago. His tenth grandfather, Hamman Ehrenhart, among other ancestors were baptized and wed at the 1,000-year-old church in the town of Speyer.
“To do it at that particular time, that moment while we were in that church, it made the moment more memorable for her,” he said of the proposal. “I thought it was just a great place to do it. I thought about it, and every other spot that I could think of just didn’t measure up. “It just wasn’t good enough, especially for her.”
Amy was previously married to her college sweetheart, Tommy Cook. The two reportedly wed in 2008 before divorcing months later. Earnhardt was never engaged until Amy.
She wed Dale Jr. on New Year’s Eve in 2016
On Dec. 31, 2016, the couple tied the knot at Childress Vineyards in Lexington, N.C. The venue is owned by NASCAR team owner Richard Childress, who owned his father’s race car for numerous years. Dale Jr. opted for a custom wood wedding band.
The reception included a live band with NASCAR legends in attendance, including Danica Patrick, who caught the bouquet. Motor Racing Outreach’s Nick Terry was the couple’s officiant while T.J. Majors was Dale Jr.’s best man.
She is a mother
On Apr. 30, 2018, the couple welcomed their first child together, Isla Rose Earnhardt. In October 2020, they welcomed their second daughter, Nicole Lorraine Earnhardt. Her name has special meaning as they used Amy’s middle name (Nicole) and Dale Jr.’s mother’s name (Lorraine).
“With Nicole… I look at her and I see so much of myself,” the proud father said of his younger child. “It’s like looking at a mirror when I look at her. It’s crazy. Now that may change in 24 hours but I mean as soon as I saw her I thought, ‘Oh my God, she is a baby me. It’s like looking at my baby self.' ”
She launched High Rock Vodka with Dale Jr.
After Dale Jr. retired from his NASCAR career in 2017, he kept busy with several partnerships and brand deals. However, he and Amy created Hard Rock Vodka in 2022 in a partnership with Sugarlands Distilling Co., whom they met during his racing days.
Their vodka is 88% proof, a nod to his racing number. They use a Lincoln County Process to create the alcohol, which begins with 100% corn and water from the Great Smoky Mountains. It is then distilled seven times before it is triple filtered and ran through sugar maple charcoal.
“I wanted to have ownership in it and have something long-term that I could pass on to my kids,” he said of the brand. “Everything I’m focusing on now is equity, things that should succeed long term.”
They appeared on reality television
The couple aired a four-part reality series, Renovation Realities: Dale Jr. & Amy in June 2018 on the DIY Network. The series showcased Amy’s work and Dale Jr.’s time spent off the track going into retirement.
The show focused on how the couple restored a dilapidated home in Key West to transform it into a beachside retreat in the Old Town district. It shows how the couple is able to work together even when structural issues and problems arise, including Hurricane Irma.
“Amy is a fantastic designer,” the proud husband praised. “She has creative ideas and a strong work ethic. We love DIY projects around the house, so I expect this to be challenging but fun.”
They credit therapy for keeping their relationship healthy
Dale Jr. took responsibility for their struggles and admitted that he was a “really immature person” during the beginning of their relationship. He believes that they wouldn’t have the life they have today without a couple’s therapist.
“Me and Amy were having a hard time figuring out how to make our relationship work… Every day was like grinding gears,” he said of the beginning of their relationship. “Just a lot of tension and disagreement and misunderstanding, and there were great times — and then there were days when we would both sort of withdraw and get frustrated with each other and not communicate and hold grudges.”
Amy revealed that Dale Jr. was opposed to marriage for a time. He ended up changing his mind when their relationship developed.
“But he wanted to have kids and so I told him, ‘I get you not wanting to get married,” Amy said. “We don’t have to get married, but I’m never having children with you if we aren’t.’ ”
