Scoring plays: How Philadelphia Eagles beat the Dallas Cowboys 28-23

The Philadelphia Eagles remain in charge of the NFC East.

The defending champions beat the visiting Dallas Cowboys 28-23 on Sunday at Lincoln Field. The victory improves the Eagles to 8-1 while the Cowboys dropped to 5-3 at the midway point of the season.

With nine games remaining, the Cowboys certainly have the opportunity to catch the Eagles for the division. But it will be very difficult.

The Cowboys return to action on Nov. 12 when they host the New York Giants at AT&T Stadium at 3:25 p.m.

First quarter

EAGLES 7, COWBOYS 0: On Philadelphia’s first series, the Eagles marched down the field and score on a Kenneth Gainwell 12-yard run. Jake Elliott’s extra point gives Philadelphia the lead with 5:46 left in the opening quarter.

COWBOYS 7, EAGLES 7: ON Cowboys ensuing possession, Dak Prescott connects with Jake Ferguson on a 4-yard touchdown pass. Brandon Aubrey’s extra point ties the game, 7-7. with 1:37 left in the quarter.

Second quarter

COWBOYS 14, EAGLES 7: With 11:16 left in the quarter, Dak Prescott throws his second TD pass of the game. This time for 5yards to KaVontae Turpin. Brandon Turpin’s extra point makes it 14-7.

EAGLES 14, COWBOYS 14: Jalen Hurts rushes for 1-yard touchdown (the infamous tush push) to tie the game (with Jake Elliott extra point), 14-14 with 5:09 left in the half.

COWBOYS 17, EAGLES 14: Brandon Aubrey’s 51-yard field goal gives Dallas a 17-14 lead with 1:15 remaining in the half.

Third quarter

EAGLES 21, COWBOYS 17: Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith connect on a 29-yard pass play to cap the opening series of the second half. Jake Elliott kicks the point. Eagles back on top. 11:23 left in the quarter.

EAGLES 28, COWBOYS 17: Jalen Hurts throws a 4-yard pass to A.J. Brown with 1:13 left. Elliott’s extra point gives Eagles a two-score lead. 1:13 left in the quarter.

Fourth quarter

KEY PLAY: On fourth-and-goal from the 2, Dak Prescott connects with Luke Schoonmaker on a pass that is initially called a touchdown. However, on review, it’s ruled he was down at the 1-yard line. Long Cowboys drive doesn’t result into any score. 10:07 left. Eagles remain ahead 28-17

EAGLES 28, COWBOYS 23: Dak Prescott connects with his third different receiver for a 7-yard touchdown, hitting with Jalen Tolbert for his first NFL touchdown. Prescott then scrambles for the two-point conversion, but steps out of bounds before getting into the end zone. 6:23 left.

LAST CHANCE: The Cowboy have a final chance to pull out the win as they move ball all the way to the PHILLY 6. Howver, a series of miscues on offense fails to give the Cowboys a chance to win. CeeDee Lamb is stopped at the 3-yard line as time expires.
