Dallas Mavericks game with the Golden State Warriors postponed after death of Warriors coach

The Dallas Mavericks game against the Golden State Warriors on Friday has been postponed following the death of Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević.

Milojević died of a heart attack on Wednesday at the age of 46 according to a statement put out by the team.

Milojević was a basketball star overseas, playing 14 years and winning three Adriatic League MVPs before becoming a coach in 2009. The Serbian native previously coached NBA MVP Nikola Jokic when the big man played for Mega Basket from 2012-2015.

Milojević was in his third year as an assistant coach with the Warriors.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr praised Milojević for what he brought to the team on and off the court.

“We are absolutely devastated by Dejan’s sudden passing,” said Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr. “This is a shocking and tragic blow for everyone associated with the Warriors and an incredibly difficult time for his family, friends, and all of us who had the incredible pleasure to work with him. In addition to being a terrific basketball coach, Dejan was one of the most positive and beautiful human beings I have ever known, someone who brought joy and light to every single day with his passion and energy. We grieve with and for his wife, Natasa, and their children, Nikola and Masa. Their loss is unfathomable.”

The Mavs game against the Warriors will be rescheduled at a later date.
