A "dangerous pervert" who raped a vulnerable woman in her bed has been jailed.

Kamran Rashid, 40, has been handed a 14-year prison sentence for sexual assault.

He sexually assaulted a woman at a house in Blackburn in November 2021.

Rashid, formerly of Cheetham Street in Blackburn, Lancashire, was already a registered sex offender and was jailed for nine years and nine months at Preston Crown Court.

'Heinous offence'

The victim woke up to find Rashid was in the same bed as her before engaging in sexual activity with her without her consent, Lancashire Police said.

She was so traumatised that she ran from the scene.

Rashid was arrested later the same day and charged with rape.

He pleaded guilty to sexual assault by penetration at the same court in April.

Judge Philip Parry said Rashid was a dangerous offender and, as well as the jail sentence, made him subject to a period of four years and three months on licence.

DC Sarah Fyans, of Lancashire Police, said: “Rashid is a dangerous pervert who committed this heinous offence on a really vulnerable young woman.

"He knew exactly what he had done but made the victim wait until the day before she was due to give evidence in court before entering his guilty plea.

“The victim in this case has shown incredible strength and resilience throughout the judicial process. I want to place on record my admiration for the bravery she has shown.”
