Daniel Winnik joins Maple Leafs on 1-year free-agent deal
The Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday added depth at centre with the signing of free agent Daniel Winnik to a one-year contract.
Winnik is a 29-year-old Toronto native coming off a career 30-point season with the Anaheim Ducks.
A solid defensive forward, his six-foot-two, 207-pound frame should fit in nicely on the third or fourth checking lines with the Maple Leafs.
Expect Winnik, a seven-year NHL veteran, to contribute on the penalty kill after he scored two short-handed goals this past season.
Winnik also set career highs in assists with 24 and posted a plus-6 rating in 76 regular-season games.
He has 150 points in 490 NHL regular-season games with Phoenix, Colorado, San Jose and Anaheim.
