David Button goes on trial in N.W.T. for alleged '70s assaults

A former Inuvik teacher is on trial in Yellowknife this morning for allegedly sexually assaulting a young man in the 1970's.

David Button is facing two charges of indecent assault on a male.

That charge does not exist anymore, but it did when the assaults allegedly took place in 1977 and 1978.

The man claims he was working for Button when he was attacked on two occasions.

Button has been charged with sexual assault before, but not convicted. In 1999 a man said Button sexually assaulted him while he was a student in the 1970's.

The case went to trial twice, but in both instances the juries could not reach a verdict.

This trial is expected to last 3 days.
