Here’s who Dawn Staley, Lamont Paris landed on basketball signing day
The fall signing period has arrived, with women’s and men’s basketball players for the 2024 recruiting class putting pen to paper on their national letters of intent. Here’s a look at the newest basketball Gamecocks.
Women’s signees
Maddy McDaniel - Upper Marlboro, Md.
Point guard Maddy McDaniel committed to South Carolina in August as a five-star recruit. She was the No. 11 overall recruit and No. 3 point guard in the nation according to ESPN.
USC confirmed her signing just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.
“She has court vision and the ability shoot and get to the rim, but what sets her apart is that she makes good decisions in the moment and has team success as her top priority,” Dawn Staley said in a press release. “Madisen has been well coached and played at an elite level, so I know that she fits our culture and that the FAMS will love to watch her play.”
McDaniel played in the Nike EYBL circuit for three seasons, and was invited to the Next Elite 24 and USA Basketball minicamp. She’s the first signee of the 2024 recruiting class.
Post player Adhel Tac from Grand Prairie, Texas is also part of the recruiting class, but her signing was not official as of late Wednesday afternoon.
Men’s signees
Okku Federiko - Helsinki, Finland
USC confirmed Federiko’s signing Wednesday afternoon, posting to X: “Another (star) from Finland is headed to Columbia.”
Power forward Okku Federiko committed to South Carolina back in April, when current Gamecock Morris Ugusuk announced his commitment to USC. Federiko had four DI offers, the others being Pitt, Syracuse and Duquesne.
The 6-foot-8, 190 pound recruit is a three-star recruit according to On3 and Rivals. He played alongside Ugusuk at Omni Basketball Academy last season.
Shooting guard Trent Noah of Baxter, Kentucky is also part of the recruiting class, but his signing was not official as of late Wednesday afternoon.
