DDG and Halle Bailey knew they were destined to be parents.

In an exclusive preview of Wednesday's episode of The Jason Lee Show shared with PEOPLE, the 26-year-old YouTuber sat down with the host to discuss the moment he and The Color Purple actress, 23, knew they were serious about starting a family.

In the clip, DDG admitted that “it kinda just happened" when Lee asked about the couple becoming parents. "We weren't aiming for a baby, but it just kinda happened," he said. "What are we going to do?"

Lee points out that the young couple — who went public with their romance in March 2022 — both had a lot going on at the time and asked the “Moonwalking in Calabasas” rapper how they agreed that having a child was best for them.

“You’re on tour, and you’re successful in your own right and have been. She’s successful in her own right, and just came out of the biggest movie, like ever, and all the drama that came with that,” Lee said, seemingly referring to her breakout role as the lead in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid and the controversy surrounding her casting.

“That’s a very big adult conversation in your early 20s,” Lee said of Bailey and DDG continuing with their pregnancy at a time when all eyes were on them.

“Both of us have the same interest in being parents,” DDG replied. “And I feel like she always wanted to be a mom. We always kind of just give off that energy, and I always wanted a kid. So, from there we just made the decision to go through with it.”

Earlier this month, the couple spoke exclusively with PEOPLE about their first date together and how they came up with a name for their baby boy, who arrived in December.

While dishing on her partnership with CORE Hydration, the actress said, “It was actually my boyfriend's idea” when it came to naming their first child.

“We just agreed, and we loved it,” she said. “I love the name Halo."

However, at the time, Bailey did not confirm whether or not the baby was named after the song of the same title that her mentor Beyoncé released on her I Am... Sasha Fierce album in 2008.

Playing it coy, she quipped, “He for sure has a theme song.”

DDG also spoke with PEOPLE at the Recording Academy Honors presented by the Black Music Collective event where he recalled their first outing together.

"We went to this Ethiopian restaurant, and then I thought that was the end of the date, and then she was like, 'I'm finna go see a movie.' I was like, 'With who?' She was like, 'By myself,' and then I invited myself. And now we here with a baby," he said in the interview, published on Feb. 2.
