“Deadliest Catch” Sets Season 20 Premiere Date and Reveals Returning Captains: First Look

The reality series about crab fishing returns with new episodes in June

Deadliest Catch, the long-running reality series about the high-stakes world of crab fishing, is back with new episodes.

On Monday, May 6, Discovery Channel announced that season 20 will follow several returning fan favorites as they and their crew risk it all out in the Bering Sea, when the series premieres on Tuesday, June 11.

Among them are Jake Anderson, who teams up with Sig Hansen on the F/V Northwestern after losing his own vessel; Keith Colburn facing life-threatening emergencies on F/V Wizard; Wild Bill Wichrowski fighting for his legacy on the F/V Summer Bay; and Johnathan Hillstrand coming out of retirement on the F/V Time Bandit.

Additionally, Steve Harley Davidson and Jack Bunnell risk it all with an upgrade to the 126-foot F/V Pacific Mariner; Sophia “Bob” Nielsen honors her late father on the F/V Seabrooke; while Jacob Hutchins making a play for relief captain on Rick Shelford’s F/V Aleutian Lady.

Per a release from Discovery Channel, this "milestone season" will see the captains engaging in the first derby-style race in over a decade after the Red King Crab fishery finally reopens. The new "highly competitive timeframe" will lead to "cutthroat rivalries that will push each crabber to their limit."

Not only that, but life on the water becomes even more dangerous for everyone when "a rare super El Niño weather pattern intensifies winter storms, serving as a grim reminder to why Alaska crab fishing is known as the Deadliest Catch."

In a promo for the upcoming episodes, Hansen says the race "is more than just fishing to make money, it's a race against time." Later, Colburn warns, "It's gonna be dog-eat-dog."

"Every split second could mean the difference between life and death," another captain says as the dramatic teaser, which previews many of the perils they will face this season, comes to a close.
