This delicious Meridian drive-thru is giving everyone a free gyro — value $8.55. No catch

If you love complimentary food, prepare to jump on a one-day deal from Gyro Shack.

Actually, leap on it.

To celebrate Leap Day on Thursday, Feb. 29, the Idaho-based chain is giving away a free Original Gyro to anyone who visits the Meridian restaurant at 1050 E. Fairview Ave. Gyro Shack operates six drive-thru locations in the Treasure Valley. Sorry, Boise, but the Fairview store is the only one offering this deal.

“It’s not every day we get to celebrate Leap Year,” Gyro Shack explains on social media. “That’s why we’re making this one count with a deal so good, we can only offer it once every four years. It’s our way of making this extra day on the calendar extra special for all our Gyro Shack fans!”

The Original Gyro, which normally costs $8.55, is “crafted with tender slices of seasoned beef and lamb fresh off the spit,” according to Gyro Shack. It’s “nestled in a warm pita and topped with housemade tzatziki sauce, ripe tomatoes, and sliced onions.” The result? “A mouthwatering masterpiece that promises to transport diners to the sunny shores of Greece with each savory bite.”

Another nice thing about this quick-service restaurant? Gyros are relatively healthy — at least compared to the In-N-Out Burger feasts that Idahoans have been shoveling down their throats lately.

“Very fresh and delicious food,” a reviewer wrote on Yelp. “It’s nice to have a healthy option to order for takeout.”

The Leap Day freebie is good for one gyro per person, and you must be present to redeem the deal.

A growing chain with recent expansions in Arizona and New Mexico, Gyro Shack brags in a media release that it “remains focused on valuing customers’ time and money.”

You can’t argue with the money part on Leap Day. As for time? You’ll have to see how that line looks Thursday at the Fairview drive-thru.

Gyro Shack is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
