Did illegal fireworks spark brush fire in Paso Robles? Fire department warns of ‘great risk’

Illegal fireworks may have sparked a vegetation fire in Paso Robles on Sunday night, according to Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services.

Firefighters received reports of a vegetation fire on Caballo Place at about 9 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, the blaze had burned a quarter acre of a slope of brush and grass.

Firefighters used eight fire engines, a water tender and two dozers to battle the blaze, the release said. The fire scorched a 3.65-acre plot before firefighters extinguished it.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but residents reported fireworks nearby just before the fire started.

“Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services reminds all residents that all fireworks are illegal in the city of Paso Robles and pose great risk during critical fire weather conditions,” the release said.

Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services, Cal Fire, Atascadero Fire, Templeton Fire, San Miguel Fire, the Paso Robles Police Department and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the fire call.

This is the second major nighttime fire reported in the city during the past week. A commercial fire in Paso Robles damaged an auto wreckage lot that was filled with cars and car parts early Saturday morning.
