Does this Biloxi dive bar have the best burger on the MS Coast? I tried it for myself.

You won’t stumble upon The Project Lounge by accident.

Hidden along the railroad tracks in South Biloxi and tucked into a cropping of building that run together is a bar and restaurant that doesn’t rely on flash to attract customers.

In fact, the opposite is true. Once you’ve spotted the banner hanging over a wooden frame that guards the front door, you’ll slip through into total, smoky darkness.

For a moment. Soon the candlelit tables and thin LED strip above the bar will bring the cozy room to light. The old movie posters and photographs that line the walls begin to come into focus.

There’s plenty of tabletop seating and a long row of seats at the bar.

This is the building that claims the Coast’s best burger. I was here to learn why.

They grill it in front of you, just behind the bar. It’s dressed in the traditional styling of an American burger: lettuce, tomato, onions and mustard over a beefy patty with a side of potato chips. It also comes with mayo if you want, as well as cheese as an add-on.

I like a good burger. It’s not typically something I’ll order when I’m out, though. This is the Mississippi Coast, I’m throwing down crawfish and pasta everywhere I go.

But this burger right here was done right. They don’t go to any extra length to make it anything other than what it is. It’s cooked to order perfectly, arriving juicy and savory. It comes with a bun that holds the flavor well without sogging up.

Maybe the best part of this meal was the price tag: $9. That’s it. For a quiet, cozy vibe and a genuinely good burger the bank did not go broke.

The folks that rolled in around the lunch hour consistently ordered the same thing. If you haven’t joined them yet, it’s time to find The Project Lounge.
