What does Chiefs’ Super Bowl merch look like? Here’s what we learned from KC vendors
“What’s in the box?”
It’s something Chiefs fans might wonder if they saw the shipment of Super Bowl merchandise Friday at Academy Sports + Outdoors, 9781 Quivira Road in Overland Park, where 50 boxes sit in one of the back rooms.
But virtually no one in Kansas City knows what the contents look like. Nor will they, unless the Chiefs win Sunday.
Along with Academy Sports + Outdoors, DICK’s Sporting Goods and Rally House stores across Kansas City are ready to open their doors and sell championship merch Sunday night if the Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers.
Each store received shipments of merchandise boxes featuring Super Bowl championship hats, shirts and more for the Chiefs. The boxes are labeled, “Do not open,” written in red and underlined, and, “Hold for Kansas City Chiefs win on 2/11/2024,” in all capitalized letters.
This Academy Sports store in Overland Park and every store with Super Bowl merchandise in the Kansas City area has been given this instruction, according to Andy Moneymaker, the store manager.
He does not know what the designs look like, as only a select few in the store are permitted to open the boxes and verify the contents inside per their policy with the vendors.
Moneymaker has experience in late-night celebratory openings. He was the store manager last year, and remembers the store staying open past midnight following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
“We’ll have people lined up around the side of the store and stay open until we run out of customers or product,” Moneymaker said.
If the Chiefs win, you can also expect a championship victory parade to take place. Past parades happened on the Wednesday following the game, which shares a date with Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday this year.

What happens to the Chiefs’ merch if they lose?
Rally House partners with Fanatics, the merchandise distributor of the NFL, who work with Good360, a global nonprofit that helps distribute items to people in need.
Romaine Seguin, the chief executive officer of Good360, said they repurpose the losing team’s gear and work with the NFL on donating it to countries outside of North America, like Ukraine, Mongolia, Georgia, Estonia and Latvia.
Once the game is over, Seguin and her team immediately start their work with the NFL to figure out where they want to distribute their clothing.
“Whatever team doesn’t make it, the merchandise is going to go into great hands of need,” Seguin said.
