The Don Valley Parkway reopened overnight after a police investigation forced a significant stretch of the highway to be closed for about eight hours Thursday.

The closure, which ran from Bloor Street in the south to Don Mills Road in the north, began shortly after 4 p.m. and continued until roughly midnight.

Police said they were dealing with a person in crisis on the Leaside Bridge and that the closure was meant to ensure the safety of drivers.

Paramedics said Friday morning that the man was eventually taken to hospital and that no one was injured.

The Lower Don River Trail was also closed in both directions to cyclists and pedestrians from 425 Don Mills Road to Beechwood Drive, but has also since reopened.
