Trump is considering returning to Twitter if his campaign needs a boost, Axios reported, citing sources.
After an extended hiatus from his once-favorite platform, Trump allies and some close to his presidential campaign expect him to tweet again at some point, according to the news outlet. When he does return, they expect him to do so with "showmanship and a purpose," Axios reported.
The former president has been missing from the platform for almost two and a half years after he had his Twitter account suspended following the Capitol insurrection in January 2021. His account was reinstated by Elon Musk following his acquisition of Twitter. In November, Musk polled his followers asking whether or not to reinstate Trump.
Despite this, Trump has yet to tweet, instead opting to keep his posts exclusively on Truth Social.
In the past, Trump has reportedly noted that his brand and image were too entwined with Truth Social for him to leave the platform, which he founded and launched in February 2022. Trump has also been given his Facebook and Instagram accounts back, sparking concern that his return to competing platforms may doom his own app.
However, now Trump is once again running for president his campaign may benefit from the larger audience. On Truth, Trump has around 5 million followers compared with his 86.7 million followers on Twitter.
Representatives for Trump did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, made outside normal working hours.
