The doors to this local market are open. Owners restored historic building after a fire

The Olalla community can now walk into a familiar building with a new purpose.

The doors to Olalla Bay Market & Landing located at 13965 Crescent Valley Road Southeast opened on April 13.

The market’s historic building was damaged by a fire in August, which created major set backs for the opening date.

The market let customers know they are now open via a Facebook post April 13.

They’ll operate Wednesday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The building has been there since 1884. It used to be Al’s Market. Gregg and Claudia Olson of Olalla bought it in early 2021.

They wanted to create a “one-of-a-kind gathering place for their community,” according to the market website.

The market is a grocery store that also offers pizza, craft beer and wine, ice cream, pretzels and sandwiches.

They only serve pizza from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In the Facebook post about the opening, they said they hope to also eventually be open on Tuesdays and to add daily lunch options.

A GoFundMe was created on behalf of the Olsons by Stuart and Mary Ellen from Olalla Vineyard and Winery.

They raised over $50,000 to help with repairs to the Olalla market.

In January Gregg Olson posted on the GoFundMe page to thank donors and give them an update on construction progress.

“Thank you for your donation to Olalla Bay Market in the wake of our fire last August,” he wrote. “Your gift was key to rebuilding this special spot. Each step of this challenging journey we have felt buoyed by our community. Thanks for being there for us. We, in turn, can’t wait to be there to serve you! See you soon.”
