Driver of 18-wheeler truck hit by own trailer in Burnside

The driver of an 18-wheeler truck was run over by his own trailer on Burbridge Avenue in the Burnside Industrial Park in Dartmouth Wednesday afternoon.

Halifax Regional Police said the call came in around 1:30 p.m. Police and Department of Labour investigators were on the scene for several hours.

Police say it appears the trailer of the 18-wheeler somehow must have come away from the truck and hit the driver — but the exact cause of the incident is still being investigated.

EHS attended the scene. Police said the driver was conscious, but did not know the extent of his injuries.

Police could not say whether the driver of the of the truck was inside the truck or outside the truck when he was hit, referring further comment on the incident to the Department of Labour.

CBC News contacted the Department of Labour and a spokesperson wrote that more details on the incident would be available Thursday.
