Driver hospitalized after two-car collision in Mason County Tuesday

A 51-year-old Port Orchard woman has been hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision Tuesday along Hood Canal in Mason County.

The incident occurred before 7 p.m. at milepost 19 on State Route 106, northeast of Sunset Beach, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.

A man who was driving east veered his truck into oncoming traffic and struck the woman’s truck, troopers reported. The man’s truck came to a rest on the right shoulder of the westbound lane while the woman’s truck rested in the westbound lane of travel.

Troopers arrested the 46-year-old Belfair man on suspicion of driving under the influence, Trooper Katherine Weatherwax shared in an X post. The man was reportedly not injured in the collision.

The Port Orchard woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with injuries, according to the memo.

Both vehicles were reportedly totaled in the collision. No other people were harmed in the incident and the cause is under investigation, the memo says.
