Ontario Provincial Police have charged a man after a three-vehicle crash in Mississauga early Saturday that followed a police chase.

The man, 34, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, media relations officer for OPP's Highway Safety Division, said Saturday in a message on Twitter that the crash occurred on a Highway 401's ramp to Hurontario Street after 2:15 a.m.

"The investigation is still ongoing but the charges have been laid on this driver," he said.

Schmidt said officers from the OPP's Port Credit detachment were enforcing the speed limit on the westbound Queen Elizabeth Way between Highway 10 and Cawthra Road when a driver went through the speed enforcement zone allegedly in excess of the speed limit.

3 vehicles involved in crash after police chase

An officer went to stop the vehicle when it appeared as though it was going to stop, but then it sped off and exited at Highway 10 and allegedly tried to evade police, Schmidt said. It became involved in a collision with two other vehicles.

The two occupants of the other two vehicles were not injured.

The OPP said the man has been charged with: dangerous driving; stunt driving; fleeing from police; and possession of controlled substances.

The Highway 401's ramp to Hurontario Street where the crash occurred was closed from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. but has been reopened.

Peel Regional Police said they were called to help the OPP at about 2:25 a.m. but were only involved in keeping the road closed for the first two hours.

Jay Szymanski, superintendent for Peel Regional Paramedic Services, said the man was transported to hospital in stable condition with what he called moderate injuries.

It is not known if Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has been notified. The SIU investigates reports involving police when there's a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
