Dua Lipa and Henry Cavill Are Spies Controlled by a Prophesying Author in Chaotic ‘Argylle’ Trailer
The ultimate serial vacationer, Dua Lipa, isn’t actually all that relaxed in the official trailer for Argylle, the Apple TV+ film scheduled to arrive in theaters on Feb. 2. She stars alongside Henry Cavill as a slick-talking spy ready to face off with her rival in a shimmering gold dress. But he sees her attack coming from a mile away and plans accordingly. When shit hits the fan and gas fills the ballroom, it’s time for a high-speed chase.
To her credit, the pop star keeps her heels on and comes so close to escaping before the story is brought to a sharp halt — because Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), the author writing it, hasn’t finished her next chapter. Argylle is supposedly based on the upcoming novel from the first-time author in real life, but the movie trailer blurs the lines of what’s real and what exists in which realities. In the film, the words she writes for her best-selling espionage novels in the comfort of her bedroom begin to manifest as real-life events.

“Bryce Dallas Howard is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie,” the synopsis for the film reads. “But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books — which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate — begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.”
Directed by Matthew Vaughn, Argylle tries to make the most out of the madness. The film also stars Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Ariana DeBose, and Samuel L. Jackson.
