Durham teen dies after walking into hospital with gunshot wound. 22-year-old charged.
A Durham teenager has died after an early-morning shooting Sunday, according to police.
The 17-year-old boy walked into a local hospital just before 2 a.m. suffering from a gunshot wound, police said in a news release. The teen, whose name has not been released, died from his injuries.
The shooting happened in the 3500 block of Tri Center Boulevard, the news release stated.
John Carvajal Campos, 22, of Durham, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and was detained at the Durham County jail on $10,000 bail.
Police would not say how or if Campos and the teen knew each other, but stated this was an “isolated incident.”
As of Nov. 18, there had been 45 homicides in Durham this year, according to police statistics. That was up from 39 and 44 homicides by the same date in the previous two years.
