The Sims 4 will continue to be supported over the next year, with a number of "content updates" planned.

A fifth core Sims title is currently in development, yet publisher EA remains fully committed to supporting the current game – which is coming up to its 10th anniversary, having launched in September 2014.

In EA's latest quarterly earnings call (via SimsCommunity.info), CEO Andrew Wilson said The Sims 4 has now "surpassed 85 million players" before stating that 15 new content releases are expected between now and the end of the fiscal year.

"The passion of the Sims community remains strong as the franchise powers toward its 25th anniversary," Wilson said.

"Looking ahead, we are committed to entertaining and inspiring our loyal and engaged Sims 4 fans through over 15 content updates over the coming year, while working on multiple experiences in the Sims universe to leverage user-generated content to deepen our community and expand our audience."

No further details were given about the upcoming content for the game.

This isn't the first time EA has indicated its commitment to The Sims 4.

In September 2023, The Sims' VP franchise creative Lyndsay Pearson said that Project Rene, the working title for the fifth core Sims game, will "exist side by side" with The Sims 4.

An IGN report from earlier this year also suggested that EA was looking to focus on its biggest existing franchises including The Sims, amid the company's latest round of layoffs.

This year has seen the release of a new Stuff Pack and four Kits, as well as a free update that added vitiligo to the game. The most recent full-sized expansion, For Rent, came out in December.

While there has been no shortage of new content for Simmers, there have been concerns over bugs and technical issues and controversy over the game's new shopping cart button.

The Sims 4 is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox.
