Early-morning fire destroys house in Cambria. People and pets were inside

A Cambria home was destroyed in a fire early Sunday morning.

The Cambria Fire Department responded to the residential fire at 1980 Spencer St. at about 2:48 a.m. and began an offensive attack to extinguish the flames, according to a news release from the Cambria Community Services District.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the structure, the release said, and people and pets inside escaped without injuries.

However, the home sustained serious damage, the CSD said.

According to the release, the fire was extinguished as a result of the “coordinated efforts” between Cal Fire, Morro Bay Fire, Cambria Community Healthcare District Ambulance and the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remained unknown as of Sunday evening.
