EastEnders – Dean Wicks' exit story explained

EastEnders spoilers follow from Thursday's (April 25) episode, which hasn't yet aired on BBC One.

EastEnders aired a huge turning point in Dean Wicks' story in the show's latest episode.

Dean is currently in prison following his arrest on suspicion of Keanu Taylor's murder and for neglecting his daughter Jade.

Viewers know that Dean didn't actually murder Keanu, but he had been tampering with Jade's medication for weeks, with devastating consequences.

Thursday's episode, which is already available to watch on BBC iPlayer, saw Dean's teenage daughter Jade bow out of Walford, after finally seeing her dad Dean's true colours.

Jade has spent the past few episodes debating whether to visit Dean in prison, ahead of her move to Pakistan.

After some initial hesitation, Jade eventually decides to meet Dean, with Jean accompanying her for the tense visit.

Reunited with Jade at last, Dean protested his innocence for tampering with her medication and murdering Keanu.

This left Jean concerned that Jade could be starting to believe his ramblings.

However, when Jade used another tactic to try and extract the truth from Dean, he began to slip up. He then left Jade distraught by confirming he did actually tamper with her medication after all.

Jade then told Dean exactly what she thought of him, before turning her back on him for good.

She later said her goodbyes to her friends in the Square and departed to meet her mum Shabnam in Pakistan.

Dean, meanwhile, sat looking bleak in his cell, as he contemplated life without Jade.

EastEnders bosses are remaining tight-lipped over whether this is the last we will see of Dean, but fans have long suspected that his return wouldn't be permanent, especially after he escaped becoming the mystery Christmas death victim.

If we rewind slightly, Dean initially became embroiled in Keanu murder investigation when Stacey spotted an opportunity to get him out of Walford for good.

Stacey, Linda, Kathy, Denise and Suki had been forced to think on their feet following the discovery of Keanu's body last month and Sharon Watts' subsequent arrest.

After learning of Dean's sinister behaviour involving his daughter Jade, Stacey became determined that he would face the consequences of his actions in one way or another.

She later planted the murder weapon in his kitchen, while Johnny wrote out a false witness statement for Suki to deliver using a burner phone, which would point the police in Dean's direction.

Despite this, Linda decided to take matters into her own hands and made the ultimate sacrifice for The Six.

She headed to the police station alone and gave them a fabricated story that painted Dean as the primary suspect in Keanu's murder.

Linda insisted that she had seen Dean carrying something heavy into the café on Christmas Day evening, even describing the tarpaulin they had used to wrap Keanu's body in.

When the police started asking why Linda originally withheld this information, she remained calm and insisted she couldn't allow her best friend Sharon to go down for a crime she didn't commit. She also told the police how terrified she was of Dean, who had raped her 10 years ago.

Linda's statement was enough to encourage the police to arrest Dean, who was taken away in front of his devastated daughter Jade.

As Dean protested his innocence down at the station, the police searched his flat and discovered the murder weapon Stacey had planted.

During the interview, it was also suggested that Dean's exit plan with Jade would also be used against him, especially as he hadn't booked a return flight home.

Dean was horrified when the police went on to inform him that the meat thermometer had been found in his home, which fitted the description of the weapon used to kill Keanu.

He was later officially charged with both crimes, and has been in prison ever since.
