EastEnders star Gurlaine Kaur Garcha addresses exit as Ash Panesar

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Gurlaine Kaur Garcha has addressed her exit as Ash Panesar in a goodbye message.

The actress, who has been part of the soap for the last three years, departed Albert Square this week, as her character decided to take up a new job in Canada, in part due to some reverse psychology from mum Suki.

In a new behind-the-scenes clip posted on Twitter, EastEnders shared footage from Gurlaine's last day on set, as she addressed her fellow cast and crew members.

"I've had the best time on this show, and what's funny is this actually came to me at a time when I had given up on the dream of being an actor," she told the assembled. "So it's an extra special job to me.

"I've learnt so much and I've worked with the most amazing people, and that's not just the people that I read opposite. It's crew, it's lighting, it's sound, it's costume, it's makeup, it's directors. It's just everybody, who just make it amazing.

"And I think what I'll miss the most is the people. It's like I said to my mum, 'It's like going from home to home. From family to family'.

"So that's it. That's a wrap on Ash, for now," she said. "It's been an amazing three and a half years here at EastEnders. Thank you so much to all the viewers that have loved Ash and her journey, and all her kind of quirks, the fiery side and soft.

"So thanks to you guys and hopefully it's not goodbye forever. So you never know, I may see you again soon. But for now, it’s bye, and thank you so much."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
