Elemental Lands in Top 10 Disney+ Movie Debuts of All Time

Elemental was on fire with its recent Disney+ debut. (No offense, Wade.)

The Disney/Pixar flick now stands as the most-watched movie premiere of the year on Disney+, having racked up 26.4 million views during its first five days of release. (On Disney+, a view is logically defined as “total stream time divided by runtime”).

That tally also lands Elemental in Disney+’s Top 10 movie premieres of all time. It also is the most-viewed animated movie premiere since Disney/Pixar’s Turning Red dropped in March 2022.

For comparison’s sake, The Little Mermaid earlier this month (briefly!) claimed the title of most-viewed movie premiere on Disney+ since Hocus Pocus 2 last September, but with “just” 16 million views.

Set in Element City, where Fire-, Water-, Earth-, and Air-residents live together, Elemental follows the quick-witted and fiery Ember (voiced by Leah Lewis), whose friendship with the sappy and go-with-the-flow Wade (voiced by Mamoudou Athie) challenges not only her beliefs about the world they live in, but the person she wants to be.

The animated entry was admittedly slow out of the gate when it hit theaters in June, earning just $30 million domestically with its opening weekend. But it proved to have impressive legs and wound up registering $154 million in the U.S. — the second-highest multiple of an opening weekend since Toy Story in 1995.

Internationally, Elemental brought in $330 million and had a particularly strong showing in South Korea, becoming Pixar’s most-seen film in the country.
