Ellenton man charged after 6-year-old dies from hot car exposure, Manatee deputies say

An Ellenton man was arrested Tuesday after deputies say he left his girlfriend’s 6-year-old daughter in a hot car.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office charged Markise Outing, 24, with aggravated manslaughter of a child. He is being held without bond at the Manatee County Jail.

On May 20, Outing picked up his girlfriend’s daughter from school at about 2:45 p.m. and drove to the 4600 block of 19th Street Ct. E. He left the child in the car while he went inside his business, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The news release said that the temperature in the car likely rose to more than 115 degrees.

Outing sought help for the girl who was unconscious and not breathing at 5:17 p.m. at a nearby fire department, deputies say. Paramedics attempted life-saving measures and took her to a hospital, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Hospital staff reported that the girl’s body temperature was 107.2 degrees, according to the news release. She was pronounced dead at 8:16 p.m.

Outling first told deputies the child overheated from playing in a park, the news release said. Before making an arrest about five weeks after the girl died, detectives used search warrants and other evidence to build the case against Outing, the sheriff’s office said.

An autopsy determined the child died from extreme heat, according to the news release. Detectives are still waiting on the results of a toxicology report.

No further details were immediately available Wednesday afternoon.
