Emilio Estevez Is Back on the Ice in First Teaser for Mighty Ducks: Game Changers

Nearly 30 years after The Mighty Ducks first premiered, the Ducks are ready to take flight once again.

On Thursday, Disney+ released a teaser for The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, giving fans their first look at the upcoming TV show based on the iconic movies. The streaming service also announced a March 26 premiere date for the 10-episode series, set in present day Minnesota.

In the clip, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from unlikely underdogs to an ultra-competitive youth hockey team. But after 12-year-old Evan Morrow (Brady Noon) is cut from the team, he and his mom, Alex (Gilmore Girls alum Lauren Graham), set out to form a new team of misfits.

"I want you to think about all the other kids who have been told that they're too small or too slow," Alex tells Evan. "They just want to get out there and play. Let's start our own team!"

The two enlist the help of coach Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez). "You've got to make this happen for yourself," he says.

Last year, the streaming service confirmed that Estevez would reprise his role as the beloved coach, which he played in The Mighty Ducks film franchise.

"Once a Duck, always a Duck!" Estevez said at the time. "After 25 years, I am delighted to lace up my skates, put on Coach Bombay's jacket and return to play the iconic character for this new chapter in The Mighty Ducks franchise. Likewise, I am thrilled to return to my old stomping grounds with my friends at Disney and Steve Brill, the original creator of the franchise, to join them on their exciting new platform, Disney Plus."

Also joining the cast are Swayam Bhatia, Taegen Burns, Julee Cerda, Bella Higginbotham, Luke Islam, Kiefer O'Reilly, Maxwell Simkins and De'Jon Watts.

Centered around a ragtag hockey team, the first The Might Ducks movie was released in 1992 and starred Estevez along with Joss Ackland, Lane Smith, Josef Sommer, Joshua Jackson and Elden Henson.

The hockey flick spawned two sequels — D2: The Mighty Ducks (1994) and D3: The Mighty Ducks (1996) — and an animated series.

The Mighty Ducks is also the namesake for real-life NHL team Anaheim Ducks, which the Walt Disney Company founded a year following the movie's release.
