'Emily in Paris' star Ashley Park says she's recovering from 'critical septic shock' after a bout of tonsillitis
Ashley Park, an actor in "Emily in Paris," is recovering from "critical septic shock."
Park said she developed a tonsil infection that "spiraled" into the potentially deadly condition.
The NHS says it happens when "blood pressure drops to a dangerously low level after an infection."
Ashley Park, best known for her roles in "Emily in Paris," "Joy Ride," and "Beef," is recovering in the hospital after developing septic shock following a bout of tonsillitis.
In a post on Instagram Friday, the actor shared that while on vacation in December, she developed a tonsil infection that "spiraled into critical septic shock, which infected and affected several of my organs."
In the post, Park thanked her costar and boyfriend, Paul Forman, for helping her through "three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections," and "excruciating pain."
"I love you Paul. More than I can ever say," she added.
Park said she was "grateful" that her health had improved "despite what we had initially been told."
The 32-year-old actor, who starred in the recently released "Mean Girls" musical remake, ended the post by saying she was "still in the throes of recovery" but "safely on the other side of the worst."
According to NHS Inform, "septic shock is a life-threatening condition that happens when your blood pressure drops to a dangerously low level after an infection."
It is the most severe form of sepsis, which "occurs when a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection causes a significant response from the body's immune system," the American Thoracic Society said.
In an Instagram Story shared shortly after her post, Park also thanked the Park Hyatt Dubai hotel for accommodating Forman while she was being treated at a hospital nearby, having been transferred there for "extensive care."
She also praised the team at Joali Being, a resort in the Maldives, "for responding immediately and staying with me to provide language translations and vital support. "
Her "Emily in Paris" costar, Lily Collins, shared in another Instagram post yesterday that the cast had "reunited" in Paris ready for the show's fourth season.
Park's recovery is going well and she is expected to join the production soon, Deadline reported, citing unnamed sources.
