Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano on co-stars' unexpected romance storyline

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano has revealed what he thinks of the soap's latest shock romance between Victoria Sugden and Jake Gallagher.

Next week will see the pair, played by Isabel Hodgins and Joe-Warren Plant respectively, spend the night together, marking the start of their controversial relationship. Jake's father David Metacalfe dated Victoria only months ago.

While many fans have pointed out the age difference between the pair, Matty Barton actor Palmisciano has given the lovers his stamp of approval, describing them as "well suited."

"I think even though there is an age gap they are quite well suited," he told The Mirror. "The only thing is the David thing, there's that thing of her having been with David but hopefully she finds love anyway."

He added that there wasn't actually that much of an age gap between the couple – with Jacob being 20 and Victoria 29 – and threw his support behind them.

Plant has also addressed the age gap concerns of fans of the ITV soap, telling Digital Spy exclusively that he believes it "doesn't really matter."

"I don't think it really matters too much. The age gap between Jacob and Victoria is actually smaller than the one between David and Victoria. Also, Jacob is quite a mature character," he said.

He also opened up on how the storyline was brought up and praised Isabel for making the scenes between them a "pleasure" to film.

"We were told about this in a story meeting about three months ago now. It's a story that's been on the cards for a while. It's Emmerdale, isn't it? (Laughs.) It was a bit of a surprise but we were more than happy to do the storyline. It's going to get people talking and that's what we do it for, so it's been good," he continued.

"It's been a pleasure to film – I get on well with Izzy so it's been amazing, really. She's a lovely girl and it's been nice to do these scenes together."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
