Employee dies after incident at industrial plant in South Carolina, coroner says

A man working at an industrial facility in South Carolina died days after a workplace incident, the Calhoun County Coroner’s Office said.

Timothy McCormick, 56, is the Zeus Industrial Products employee who was killed, Coroner Donnie Porth told The State. The manufacturing plant is in the Gaston area of Calhoun County, near Interstate 26.

McCormick was working at the facility June 24, Porth said. At about 1 a.m., there was an emergency call about an accident involving McCormick, according to Porth.

Emergency responders tried CPR on McCormick and were able to get a heartbeat, Porth said. McCormick was taken to Lexington Medical Center, where he died June 26, according to Porth.

Although Porth said McCormick’s death “appears to be accidental,” no official cause or manner of death has been determined.

Information about the incident at the Zeus plant was not available, as the coroner’s office is continuing to investigate the death.

Zeus was founded in 1966 and it both develops and manufactures polymer tubing for a variety of industries, including the medical, fluid handling and electrical markets, according to its website.

Calls made to Zeus seeking comment were not answered.
