Englishtown ferry suspends service

Cape Breton ferries could be replaced by toll bridges

The Englishtown ferry suspended its service at noon Sunday.

The stoppage is necessary so the the Torquil MacLean can be moved back in place.

That ferry has been undergoing repairs for weeks.

Nova Scotia's Department of Transportation says it will take three to five days before the service resumes.

The Torquil MacLean was taken out of service in July and hauled to Pictou for repairs.

The Scotian ferry was brought in to service the route in the meantime.

Repairs to the Torquil MacLean took longer than expected and went $360,000 over budget.

The Englishtown ferry runs across St. Ann's Harbour, providing a shortcut to the Cabot Trail in northern Cape Breton.
