Errol Spence Jr: World boxing champion in intensive care after flipping his Ferrari
Boxing champion Errol Spence Jr is in intensive care after flipping his Ferrari "multiple times" at high speed while not wearing a seatbelt.
The WBC and IBF welterweight champion was ejected from the supercar in the early hours of Thursday morning after driving into oncoming traffic, police in Dallas said.
The 29-year-old was taken to a local hospital and despite being badly injured is "expected to live", officers added.
British fighter Kell Brook, who Spence beat to claim the IBF crown at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane stadium in 2017, tweeted: "Get well soon champ! Thoughts are with you and wishing you a full and speedy recovery."
"His injuries are not life-threatening. His parents are with him at the hospital," Tim Smith, a spokesman for Spence's promoter, Premier Boxing Champions, said.
Police said in a statement: "On 10 October 2019, at 2.53am, a white Ferrari was travelling at a high rate of speed northbound in the 500 block S Riverfront Boulevard.
"The Ferrari veered left over the centre median onto the southbound lanes and flipped multiple times, ejecting the driver who was not wearing a seatbelt.
"The driver, Errol Spence Jr, 29-years-old, was taken to an area hospital where he remains in ICU. He is expected to live. The cause of the accident is undetermined at this time."
Spence is unbeaten in 26 fights as a professional, and added the WBC belt to his IBF title last month when he beat fellow American Shawn Porter in Los Angeles.
