Ethan Dolan Opened up About Dealing With Acne and Trolls

YouTube star Ethan Dolan, one of the Dolan Twins, has taken to social media to shed light on something that’s been weighing him down: his acne and how trolls online perceive it.

On February 27, the social media pro, who has been sharing pieces of his life for over five years, took to Twitter to get real, raw, and honest about his issues with acne, and to encourage others who are struggling to be kind to themselves.

Ethan shared a selfie that put his forehead acne in prominent view, as well as a few unkind comments regarding his skin, including the Google searches "Ethan Dolan skin" and "Ethan Dolan ugly." It appears that he's been dealing with skin problems for some time and now he is ready to talk about it.

“Just seeing what other people are saying about my skin (which is completely out of my control, just bad luck) ... It just makes me think… so many people deal with acne, I can just imagine the comments they get about their appearance daily," he wrote in a heartfelt note. "We all know it’s never cool or okay to pick on someone for their appearance / what's out of their control, but that’s not going to stop people from doing it."

Being kind to one another is something Ethan believes we should all do, every day, but he acknowledges that we've still got a long way to go until everyone is accepted for who they are and what they look like. “I do think the world is headed in a way better direction where people will take others [sic] feelings into consideration and be more supportive/accepting but until it’s fully there, it’s important to focus on yourself so hateful people’s words are meaningless," he wrote.

Ethan finished his message with some words of inspiration for those going through a similar situation. "If you're struggling with your skin, no matter how severe your conditions may be... I encourage you to embrace it," he added. "It's completely systemic that 'you can't be fully confident if you don't have clear skin.' Talk yourself up, remind yourself of all your great qualities and remind yourself that acne isn't a bad quality... just know you deserve to have confidence and you're not alone in this."

Ethan and his brother Grayson have been open about their decision to take a step back from weekly videos after the death of their father, though the two did just release a documentary honoring their dad and raising money for cancer. While we aren't seeing quite as much of the Dolan Twins as we used to, we're all about this new direction for the brothers, and their message of acceptance, love, and kindness is certainly inspiring.
