Euphoria's Colman Domingo explains season 3 delay

Euphoria star Colman Domingo has explained the lengthy delay in waiting for season three of the drama.

Starring Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and the late Angus Cloud, Euphoria's second season aired in 2022 – but a third has yet to receive even a concrete release window beyond a vague '2025'.

Speaking to GQ, Domingo has revealed that one reason for the delay is creator Sam Levinson's constant reinvention of season three in response to the real world.

“[Sam is] a person who writes and rewrites and writes and rewrites again, because I think he’s wrestling with what’s important,” he said.

“He’s responding immediately to what the ills of the world are. I know that the one thing I can tell you is that he’s very much interested in the existential question of who we are right now. Our souls. That’s what he wants to figure out with season three.”

Domingo plays recurring character Ali, a recovering drug addict and to mentor and sponsor to Zendaya's Rue.

The delay has previously been humorously addressed for season three – which will reportedly be a 'film noir' – by Saltburn's Elordi.

"I don’t know, do you know? I hope it’s soon, or they’re going to have to Benjamin Button me or something," he said on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon in January 2024 (via Variety).

"I’m going to have a bad back walking down the hallway, you know? I’m assuming that we’ll have to go forward, otherwise it’s going to seem like a weird bit.”

Euphoria airs on HBO in the US and on NOW and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
