Everton 0-1 Manchester City LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Everton vs Manchester City LIVE!

Pep Guardiola’s side kept their advantage in the Premier League title race with a battling 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park.

The Toffees were impressive for much of the match, as they looked to pick up a crucial result and move away from the relegation zone.

Jordan Pickford was in inspired form, keeping out Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva on a number of occasions as he repelled the City pressure being put on his goal.

But with eight minutes remaining, City ruthlessly took the lead. Michael Keane failed to make contact as a deflected cross fell at his feet, allowing Phil Foden behind him to take a touch past Pickford and score into an empty net.

It moves City six points clear at the top of the table, although Liverpool do have a game in hand.

Everton 0-1 Man City

City return to winning ways, but they had to work really hard for it.

Foden pounced on a Keane error, rounding Pickford to put his side in front with eight minutes remaining.

Visitors fortunate not to concede a penalty shortly afterwards, Everton still unhappy about that.

90+7 mins: Still we go on...

Referee blows for the throw-in to be moved back, few players thought that was the full-time whistle. Ball deep in Everton territory still.

19:24 , Matt Verri

90+5 mins: We’re going to have a couple more minutes added on, after Stones needed treatment on a finger injury.

Dele charges into Ederson, doesn’t slow down as the Brazilian drops on the ball. Gets a yellow card for his troubles, and the goalkeeper is in no hurry to get up.

19:21 , Matt Verri

90+3 mins: Holgate lifts it deep in the box, just beyond El Ghazi and City punt it up the pitch.

Everton coming back though, time running out for them.

19:19 , Matt Verri

90 mins: Five minutes added on.

City aren’t there yet... huge cheers from the Everton fans when the board went up.

19:17 , Matt Verri

88 mins: City now happy to slow things down, in no rush to get the ball back in play.

Coleman and Foden clash... the City man not happy at all. Frustrations boiling over on both sides, and Foden gets a yellow card for a shove.

NO PENALTY!

19:15 , Matt Verri

86 mins: WOW. VAR decides that isn’t handball.

City very, very lucky there. Definitely hit Rodri on the arm and it was not a natural movement.

Everton players furious.

19:13 , Matt Verri

84 mins: Richarlison gets in behind, Ederson flies off his line to close down the angle and smother the shot.

Everton now screaming for a penalty, they think the ball has bounced up and hit Rodri on the arm.

VAR checking it...

GOAL! Everton 0-1 Man City | Phil Foden 81'

19:11 , Matt Verri

CITY HAVE THE LEAD!

What a massive, massive goal. It’s a disastrous goal to concede too from an Everton perspective.

Silva puts a ball into the box, it flicks off Holgate and straight to Keane... but the centre-back makes a complete mess of it and doesn’t clear.

Foden is waiting behind him for a simple finish.

19:08 , Matt Verri

80 mins: Iwobi and Doucoure pressing City high up the pitch, but they play it out well. No surprise there.

Allan then gives away a cheap free-kick, wisely decides against protesting too much this time.

19:05 , Matt Verri

77 mins: Gray makes his return for Everton from a hip injury, replacing Gordon.

Guardiola also turns to his bench with a double change. Mahrez and Jesus on for Gundogan and Sterling.

19:03 , Matt Verri

75 mins: Saying that, here come Everton!

Gordon drives into the City box, Stones forces him outside though and the shot is never troubling Ederson.

19:02 , Matt Verri

73 mins: It’s one-way traffic, no real sign of the Everton pressing and countering that we saw in the first-half.

Dele Alli on for the home side, doubt he’s going to see much of the ball.

18:59 , Matt Verri

70 mins: Van de Beek down with an injury now, on come the medical staff to treat him.

Much-needed breather for the Toffees, who have struggled the last five minutes.

18:57 , Matt Verri

68 mins: HEROIC DEFENDING!

Everton hanging on for dear life now. De Bruyne curls an effort at goal, comfortable enough save but it’s parried straight at Silva. He blazes it at goal, Pickford quickly up to save again.

Everton defenders then throw themselves in the way to prevent a third shot coming in.

18:53 , Matt Verri

64 mins: All of City’s players in the Everton half, but the comfortable possession isn’t turning into anything more dangerous yet.

Foden curls it into the box, cleared out to the edge of the. Stones is there and gets the strike away, tipped over by Pickford.

18:49 , Matt Verri

60 mins: Richarlison has been drawing fouls all match and he does so again, Stones barging into the back of him. Doing a great job for his side, the Brazilian.

Looks like Gray will be coming on shortly for the Toffees...

18:46 , Matt Verri

58 mins: Allan shown a yellow card - not exactly a rarity for him.

Wasn’t so much for the foul, but the protests in the linesman’s face. Shown the yellow card and then kept arguing with the referee, needs to calm down.

Foden swings it into the box, not the best delivery and Richarlison gets it away.

18:45 , Matt Verri

56 mins: Everton struggling to get out now, City turning the screw.

Comes to Foden at the back post, drilled at goal and it’s well saved by Pickford. Worked back to Cancelo, curling effort and the Everton goalkeeper is up to the task again.

18:41 , Matt Verri

53 mins: Great move from City, they nearly open Everton up.

Stones skips past a challenge and plays it wide to Silva. He almost finds Gundogan in the box who was completely free, but it’s just cut out.

Pressure building from City though...

18:39 , Matt Verri

50 mins: Everton corner, taken short. Van de Beek swings it in, Ederson off his line to claim.

He throws it out to Sterling and City are away on the break. He has numbers with him, plays it into the box but Van de Beek has got all the way back to clear. Brilliant work rate.

18:37 , Matt Verri

48 mins: Grealish and Jesus out warming up at the start of the half. Mahrez also on the bench for City, so there’s no lack of options for them to turn to.

BIG MISS! Offside flag up anyway, wouldn’t have counted.

Allan clips a great ball over the top for Richarlison, he’s clean through but Ederson makes a great save. Linesman then raises his flag.

Back underway!

18:35 , Matt Verri

Up and running again at Goodison Park.

Everton straight on the attack, Doucoure threatening to burst through but City do enough to clear.

18:29 , Matt Verri

65% of the ball for City, but only two shots on target to show for it. Neither of those were particularly troubling for Pickford.

Everton have managed just one, that big chance from Richarlison, but Lampard will be pleased with his side’s general play.

Big opportunity for Richarlison...

18:22 , Matt Verri

HALF-TIME

18:18 , Matt Verri

Goalless at the break but there’s been enough entertainment in the opening 45 minutes.

Everton picking their moments to press and doing so really well, looking dangerous on the counter too. Richarlison and Kenny both with decent chances, before Gordon went close with that free-kick right at the end of the half.

City have been well below-par, De Bruyne’s strike from distance about as close as they’ve come.

18:16 , Matt Verri

45 mins: Two minutes added on.

Gordon standing over the free-kick. Over the wall... just over the bar! Great effort, Ederson probably had it under control.

18:15 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Rodri absolutely furious as the referee blows for an Everton free-kick. Richarlison felt the slightest touch and went tumbling to the ground, got the decision.

Brilliant position, 25 yards out for Everton. Maybe a yard or two further back, must to the annoyance of the Everton players.

18:13 , Matt Verri

42 mins: Silva cuts inside off the right wing, effort is a weak one though and an easy save for Pickford.

City starting to have more possession again though, after a five-minute spell when Everton had them pinned back.

18:10 , Matt Verri

40 mins: Cancelo plays it through to Foden, he cuts it back into the box but not before the ball runs out for a goal-kick.

Five minutes to go until half-time - frustrating half for City so far.

18:08 , Matt Verri

38 mins: Great challenge from Stones, had to make it or Gordon was through on goal.

Everton on top at the moment, City very much under pressure. Iwobi curls a ball into the box, Laporte heads it away.

18:05 , Matt Verri

35 mins: CLOSE!

Richarlison bulldozes his way through a couple of challenges, plays the ball into the box but City can half-clear.

Everton quickly back on the attack, it drops for Richarlison 12 yards out and his snap shot is straight at Ederson.

Caught it really sweetly, but couldn’t put it either side of the goalkeeper.

18:04 , Matt Verri

33 mins: De Bruyne curls the ball into the box, Laporte gets up and wins the header but it loops harmlessly over the bar.

Guardiola’s side a long way from their best so far, and it has a lot to do with an impressive Everton display.

18:02 , Matt Verri

31 mins: Everton’s best moment of the match, and half their fans think the opening goal has come.

Allan presses really well and wins it back and then drives towards the City box. Slides it in to Kenny, he slices across the shot though and it’s into the side netting.

18:00 , Matt Verri

29 mins: Better from City, De Bruyne takes up a great position between the Everton midfield and defence.

He has Sterling out wide to his left but goes for the strike from the edge of the box himself - comfortable save for Pickford.

17:56 , Matt Verri

26 mins: Stones loses it again, Gordon launches the counter and it’s worked wide to Iwobi.

Doucoure makes the run forward for him, but his low cross is blocked and City win the ball back.

17:53 , Matt Verri

22 mins: Laporte with a silly challenge on Richarlison and Everton have the chance to whip something into the box. Up comes the defenders.

Gordon takes, City do a good job of clearing it though. They very nearly break too, but Kenny gets across to cover brilliantly.

17:50 , Matt Verri

19 mins: It’s a really good ball in from Foden, Dias wins the header but he manages to actually send it backwards.

Does a good job of clearing it for Everton! Sterling then completes the job by giving away a soft free-kick.

17:48 , Matt Verri

18 mins: Outrageously good touch from Foden. Rodri floats a pass to him, perfect control from Foden takes him past Kenny as he gets to the byline. Cut back is cleared behind for a corner.

Taken short, City work it all the way to the other corner. They lost it and Richarlison can break... or not. Referee decides Laporte had been fouled by Doucoure.

17:46 , Matt Verri

16 mins: Already been two or three occasions when City have lost patience and looked for a pass that isn’t there.

Gundogan the latest culprit, sending it straight out of play as he goes for a cute pass through to Sterling. Lampard will be satisfied with how his side have started.

17:43 , Matt Verri

13 mins: Gordon has made a really bright start to the match.

Played out wide to him, he skips past Stones and fires a ball across the face of goal. Ederson spills it, but Richarlison isn’t close enough to capitalise.

17:42 , Matt Verri

11 mins: Sterling has space to get forward on the left, Gundogan has made a good run into the box but the winger can’t find him.

Everton break and Gordon goes for goal from all of 30 yards out, swiftly blocked. Ambitious, we’ll call it...

17:41 , Matt Verri

10 mins: Stones harried by Gordon, knocks the ball out of play.

Tries to fool the officials by taking a quick throw-in, but they know full well that’s an Everton throw.

Pre-match message from both sides...

17:39 , Matt Verri

17:38 , Matt Verri

7 mins: Long ball forward from Holgate, great first touch from Coleman gives him the space to put a ball into the box.

Richarlison the only one in there for Everton, but cross is blocked anyway. Corner for the home side.

Gordon swings it in, Rodri heads it away. Ederson had come for it but got nowhere near.

17:34 , Matt Verri

4 mins: Good ball in from De Bruyne, but there’s a foul on Keane in the box and the referee blows for it.

Gordon then loses it in a dangerous position, De Bruyne looks to slide in Silva but it’s well intercepted.

17:33 , Matt Verri

2 mins: It is Stones at right-back, against his former side.

City with all the possession in the early stages as you’d expect. Foden cuts inside and wins a free-kick as Gordon brings him down.

KICK-OFF!

17:31 , Matt Verri

We are underway at Goodison Park!

17:29 , Matt Verri

Zinchenko in tears on the City bench, as the fans join in with their support pre-match. So difficult for the City man and Mykolenko.

Strong message from both sides.

17:27 , Matt Verri

Man City out onto the pitch now, wearing ‘No War’ t-shirts in support of Ukraine.

Everton players out, all with Ukraine flags draped over them.

17:22 , Matt Verri

Just under 10 minutes to go until kick-off.

Man City looking to avoid back-to-back defeats, which could serious derail their title charge. Everton big underdogs, but any kind of positive result for them would be a big boost as they look to move away from the relegation zone.

Zinchenko and Mykolenko embrace during the warm-ups, incredibly difficult time at the moment for the two Ukrainian players.

Reminder how it stands at the top of the table...

Liverpool are just three points off City, after closing in as City were beaten by Tottenham.

The Reds are in Carabao Cup action this weekend, so Guardiola’s six have a chance to restore the gap to six points.

Preparations continue...

Lampard: Guardiola’s team are always complete

16:50 , Matt Verri

Speaking in the build-up to the match earlier this week, Lampard spoke about the size of the challenge when you face a team managed by Guardiola.

“Every time you go up against [Guardiola] you feel a very complete team,” Lampard said.

“It’s not only the in-game feeling, but when you prepare and you see them.

“Their winning record is incredible this season, even when they lose it doesn’t generally look like a normal loss. I’m taking them at face value, we have to be very organised and aggressive - and take our opportunities to do positive things in the game.

“I think Tottenham defended very well, very organised and closed the distances. The main thing you have to be is together and very active, very focused on the game. We have to approach it in our own way, we’ll have our own style and preparation.”

Everton without Calvert-Lewin this evening, a big blow for them. Doesn’t look it’ll keep him out for too long though.

Better news is that Doucoure is back and straight into the starting lineup, while Gray returns to the squad but has to settle for a place on the bench.

16:38 , Matt Verri

Interesting team selection from Guardiola. Really strong bench, including Grealish, Jesus, Mahrez and Walker.

Zinchenko also on the bench, with his manager confirming in the build-up he was ready to play.

Could be Stones at right-back, or potentially some sort of back-three system. Who knows with Pep...

Prediction

16:14 , Matt Verri

Fortress Goodison has proven to be Frank Lampard’s great hope in the early weeks of his tenure, whereas City have shown some signs of creakiness.

Still, it is hard to look past the league leaders in this one.

Man City to win, 3-1.

Man City team news

16:08 , Matt Verri

Pep Guardiola has both Jack Grealish and Gabriel Jesus fit to start, with Oleksandr Zinchenko available too after Pep Guardiola delivered an update on his defender amid the Russian invasion of his home country Ukraine.

“[Zinchenko] is concerned but he is an incredibly strong guy and it is not easy in the moment, but today in training like yesterday he was brilliant. He is ready to play in case he has to,” said the manager.

Everton team news

15:56 , Matt Verri

Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey, Tom Davies and Fabian Delph all face a few more weeks on the sidelines due to muscle problems.

But Everton have Abdoulaye Doucoure and Demarai Gray back for the bench at least.
