F1 pre-season testing 2024: Session times, driver schedule and how to watch on TV today

F1 pre-season testing 2024: Session times, driver schedule and how to watch on TV today

The 2024 Formula One season is a step closer after the start of pre-season testing in Bahrain.

Red Bull have shown off their new hardware as the defending F1 champions, despite the ongoing off-track issues, look to continue their dominance at the top of the grid.

Ferrari and Mercedes, who will lose Lewis Hamilton at the end of the year, are hoping to make a dent in Max Verstappen’s supremacy while Aston Martin and McLaren also hold race-winning ambitions.

But F1 pre-season testing is less often about the timesheets and more often about reliability and lap count.

Last year saw Red Bull not only produce the quickest time but also enjoy a trouble-free three days of running, and once again rivals will be keen to pore over any sign of weaknesses in their new machine here.

F1 pre-season testing dates, times and venue

The 2024 pre-season testing schedule kicked off on Wednesday February 21, and continues through Thursday and Friday.

The track will open for running from 7am GMT until 4pm GMT, with an hour lunch break.

On Thursday, a loose drain cover caused an early end to the morning session with the afternoon’s start time brought forward to 11am GMT as a result.

Teams will be allowed to send their drivers out as much as they like for three days with testing ending at 4pm GMT on Friday, February 23.

Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain will host the test.
