Feds went undercover to buy meth in Ceres and Empire. One defendant just got sentenced

A Hughson resident got 10 years in federal prison Tuesday for trafficking methamphetamine in 2019.

Antonio Ochoa Mejia, 50, was one of three Mexican nationals who conspired to sell the drug, a news release from U.S. Attorney Phillip Talbert said.

Mejia tried to sell a total of 3 kilograms of meth during undercover operations about a month apart in Empire and Ceres, the release said. He was arrested in late May 2019 after trying to deliver another 10 kilograms to undercover agents, Talbert said.

The men were charged with conspiracy to distribute meth and possession with intent to distribute the drug.

Co-defendant Jorge Armando Gonzalez Martinez, 41, also of Hughson, was sentenced earlier to four years and six months in prison.

Ramon Ortega, 36, of Willows, Glenn County was sentenced earlier to three years and two months in prison.

U.S. District Judge Dale Drozd heard the case in Fresno. It followed an investigation by the FBI and the San Joaquin Metropolitan Narcotics Task Force.

Mejia and Ortega are already in federal custody. Martinez was ordered to surrender to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons on July 7.
