Fifth person charged in Mill Woods homicide

Police have charged a fifth person in the fatal stabbing of 22-year-old Michael Motiuk last summer.

The 21-year-old is charged with second-degree murder. Earlier this week, police charged three 19-year-olds and an 18-year-old with second-degree murder.

At the time, witnesses said several young people attacked Motiuk and another male at a home at Mill Woods East and 15th Avenue, shortly before 5 a.m. on Aug. 6th.

Three knives and a sword were found near where he was stabbed.

Det. Stephen Camp said the fact that everyone knew each other was one reason why witnesses took so long to step forward.

"Our investigative team never gave up on the fact that people sometimes do the right thing eventually," he said. "Sometimes it just takes them a little bit longer."
